Governor Dare, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recently claimed victory over Matawalle of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state’s governorship election held in March 2023.

Now, he accuses Matawalle of taking away 17 government vehicles and other property.

Financial Strain Left Behind

Speaking on Vision FM, a local radio station in Gusau, the capital city of Zamfara State, Governor Dare revealed that Matawalle not only made off with vehicles but also left the state government financially drained.

According to Dare, the former governor claimed that the vehicles were his personal possessions, leaving behind no office equipment or other government property.

Governor’s Strong Reaction

Governor Dare expressed his disbelief and described Matawalle’s alleged actions as “beyond comprehension.”

He pledged to rectify the situation, assuring the citizens of Zamfara State that steps would be taken to address these anomalies.

“However, with proper planning, I assure the citizens of the state that we will correct these anomalies.”

EFCC Investigation and Response from Matawalle

The accusations against Matawalle come shortly after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced that the former governor is under investigation for alleged fraud.

In response to the allegations made by Governor Dare, Matawalle retaliated by accusing the Chairman of EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, of corruption and calling for an investigation into his activities.

The ongoing confrontation between the current and former governors of Zamfara State raises concerns about governance and transparency in the state, as well as the need for a thorough investigation into the allegations of property misappropriation and financial misconduct.
