Prince and Princess of Wales Pay Tribute to Late Queen on Anniversary
Remembering Queen Elizabeth
On the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s passing, the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate, paid a heartfelt tribute. Their message, shared on X (formerly Twitter) and signed “W&C,” conveyed their deep sense of loss and appreciation for the late monarch’s extraordinary life and legacy. The message simply stated, “Today we remember the extraordinary life and legacy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth. We all miss you. W & C.”
Accompanied by Cherished Photos
The message, posted on Friday, was accompanied by a touching photograph captured by the Princess of Wales. In the photo, the late Queen was surrounded by her great-grandchildren, including Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, as well as her two youngest grandchildren.
Reflecting on Past Moments
In addition to the family portrait, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared other cherished moments. One image depicted the Waleses and the late Queen on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Another showed the Queen in a vibrant blue coat and hat, showcasing her regal presence.
Private Service in Wales
To mark the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, William and Kate planned to attend a small private service in Wales. This solemn occasion was set to take place at St Davids Cathedral in St Davids, the smallest city in Britain. Exactly one year had passed since the nation’s longest-reigning monarch peacefully passed away at the age of 96.
Historic Cathedral and Royal Connection
St Davids Cathedral has a rich history of more than 1,400 years, with St David, the patron saint of Wales, settling there with his monastic community in the sixth century. Notably, since the Reformation, one of the quire stalls in the cathedral has been in the possession of the Crown and is known as the Sovereign’s Stall.
This unique arrangement makes St Davids the only UK cathedral where the sovereign has a special stall in the quire among members of the chapter, the governing body of the cathedral. Queen Elizabeth II was the first monarch to visit the cathedral since the Reformation when she visited with her husband, the late Duke of Edinburgh, in August 1955 during a royal tour to Wales following her coronation. She occupied the special stall on several occasions during her visits over the years.
Official City Status
St Davids officially became a city in 1995 when Queen Elizabeth II presented the-then town council with letters patent elevating it to the status of a full city council during a ceremony at the cathedral.
Historic Ceremony at St Davids Cathedral
In 1982, the late Queen performed the Maundy money ceremony at St Davids Cathedral. This ceremony involves the monarch distributing money to pensioners to commemorate Jesus washing the feet of the Apostles at the Last Supper, and it added to the cathedral’s rich history. St Davids Cathedral, dating back to 1181, welcomes around 300,000 visitors annually.
