Minister Nyesom Wike Commends President Bola Tinubu for Civil Service Commission Approval in FCT

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly praised President Bola Tinubu for his approval of a civil service commission for the FCT.

Wike lauded Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a political leader with the courage to undertake initiatives that others may shy away from.

He expressed that this attribute was a significant factor motivating his decision to work with the President.

A Long-Awaited Development

Minister Wike went on to explain that upon assuming his role, he uncovered that a law establishing a civil service commission for the FCT had been passed and signed into law during the tenure of the former Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, while he was acting as the President.

Despite its enactment, this law remained unimplemented.

President Tinubu’s Swift Action

Wike further detailed that he brought this crucial issue to President Tinubu’s attention, leading to swift approval for its implementation.

This development was shared by Minister Wike during a briefing held on a Friday.

Leadership and Political Will

Wike emphasized the significance of leadership and political will in addressing issues that many are hesitant to tackle.

He remarked, “One of the problems in this country is leadership, so many people don’t want to take action.

There is no action that you take that everybody will be [happy].” He pointed out that the law passed in 2018 by the national assembly, which was assented to by former Vice-President Osinbajo, stipulated the need for a civil service commission in the FCT, a provision that many had been avoiding.

Institutional Benefits Over Personal Interests

The Minister underscored the importance of prioritizing institutional interests over personal concerns, stating, “It is about the institution.

The president will come and go. The minister will come and go, so also the head of service will come and go.

If the national assembly passes a bill into law which is assented by Mr. President, what is wrong in implementing that law?”
