…By Roland Peterson for TDPel Media. A 48-year-old police captain found himself facing charges of alleged theft when he appeared in the Vryburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 8 June.
Captain Baile Mokgoro, stationed in Vryburg, North West, stands accused of misusing state resources for personal gain.
Misuse of State Resources: Fuel Purchases and Theft
According to reports, Captain Mokgoro visited a fuel station in the Vryburg CBD where he allegedly filled up a state vehicle.
However, it didn’t end there.
He is also accused of using state resources to buy fuel for his private generator while at the station.
The alleged transactions involved filling the state vehicle with 40.14 litres of fuel, amounting to R923.43, and purchasing an additional 25 litres of fuel for his generator, valued at R577.00.
In total, the state paid a sum of R1,503.45 for Captain Mokgoro’s actions.
Following the incident report and subsequent investigation conducted by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit (ACIU), the police spokesperson confirmed the captain’s arrest.
Provincial Commissioner’s Stance: No Tolerance for Dishonesty
Lieutenant-General Sello Kwena, the North West police commissioner, commended the swift response of the ACIU and emphasized that there is no place for dishonest individuals within the police service.
He assured the public that such matters will be dealt with accordingly.
Bail Granted: Captain Mokgoro’s Court Date
After being taken into custody, Captain Mokgoro was granted bail in the amount of R500.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday, 4 August, where further proceedings will take place regarding the alleged theft.
