Fleeing a War-Torn Homeland

Kseniia Botezat’s life took a dramatic turn amidst the turmoil of war.

Originally from Chernivisti, a city in Ukraine’s southwest, she became one among the masses forced to flee the invading Russian forces.

The conflict, which erupted in February 2022, prompted her parents’ decision to send her away from the chaos.

In March of that tumultuous year, she found herself in the care of her grandparents and aunt in Greenboro, North Carolina.

A New Life Across Oceans

The 17-year-old found solace and a fresh start in her new American home.

Grateful for the safety and stability she now experiences, Kseniia has grown to love her newfound life and the opportunities it offers.

Despite the upheaval and uncertainties that marked her journey, she’s embraced her new country with open arms.

From Frightened Refugee to Homecoming Royalty

Despite the initial fear and uncertainty of living in a war zone for three harrowing weeks, Kseniia’s resilience and positivity have shone through.

Her experiences contrast starkly with the celebrations that now mark her life.

Recently crowned Homecoming Queen at Southeast Guilford High School, she’s found joy and recognition amidst her challenging past.

Dreams and Aspirations

Kseniia’s dreams of America predate the conflict.

From a young age, she longed to visit her grandparents and relatives in the United States.

Her arrival in North Carolina in 2022 and subsequent embrace by her classmates reaffirmed her hopes for a better future.

While her family remains in Ukraine, her determination to build a life in America remains steadfast.

Looking Ahead

As she approaches graduation from high school, Kseniia has her sights set on a future in nursing.

Her dedication is evident in her pursuits—she’s already applied to multiple universities, eager to pursue higher education and lay the groundwork for her aspirations.

Despite the geographical distance, plans to reconnect with her family in Ukraine remain a priority before she sets out on her collegiate journey in the States.
