Recently, a day of leisure at a celebrity golf tournament took a dramatic turn for Katie Hauss when a stray golf ball from Travis Kelce struck her in the head.
The incident happened at the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe, leaving Katie, 37, bloodied and in need of urgent medical care.
Katie was enjoying the event with her husband when she was hit.
“When I put my hand to the back of my head, there was so much blood,” Katie recalled. “The pain hit me immediately, and I tried to stay focused on not blacking out.
I was in shock and didn’t fully grasp what had happened.”
As the crowd reacted, Katie began to hear people shouting about the incident involving Travis Kelce.
Despite the chaos, she tried to remain calm, telling her husband that she was in a lot of pain but hoped she’d be alright.
Soon, a Good Samaritan, likely a medical professional, came to her aid, applying pressure to her wound and calling for EMTs.
Concern from the Kelce Brothers
Both Travis and his brother Jason rushed to check on Katie after the accident. Jason, in particular, was noted for his genuine concern, frequently asking if she was okay.
Travis, despite the unfortunate circumstances, offered to take a photo with Katie, which she accepted.
“Travis said he couldn’t smile under the circumstances, and I felt bad for him. It was an accident, and I know he didn’t mean for it to happen,” Katie shared.
Medical Attention and Recovery
Following medical advice, Katie went to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a concussion and required stitches.
Over a week later, she reported that she was feeling much better and on the road to recovery.
Ironically, before the tournament, Travis had joked with his brother Jason about the potential for mishaps on the course. “Don’t feel bad if you hit somebody,” Travis had advised.
“People have been hit before, and they have EMTs at every hole. Everybody will be fine.”
It’s clear that while the accident was unfortunate, the quick response from those around her helped Katie on her path to recovery.
