Excited to explore the city, the students embarked on a boat cruise at the Marina Resort.

Boat Capsizes, Lives Lost

Tragically, during the cruise, the boat capsized in the Calabar Channel, resulting in a devastating incident.

Regrettably, three medical students lost their lives in the accident, while eleven others were fortunate enough to be rescued.

At present, three students remain missing.

High Waves Cause Calamity

According to an eyewitness account, the capsizing was attributed to high waves in the Calabar Channel.

The suddenness and force of these waves overwhelmed the boat, leading to the tragedy.

However, the presence of Nigerian Navy patrol teams in the vicinity proved fortuitous, as their divers were able to save eleven individuals from the water.

Governor Orders Investigation and Rescue Efforts

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has taken prompt action in response to the boat mishap.

He has directed a thorough investigation into the incident involving the fourteen medical students.

Expressing deep sadness, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary released a statement outlining the governor’s determination to find answers and provide support to the affected families.

Urgent Calls to Find Missing Students

Governor Otu has urged the involved security and rescue agencies, as well as local villagers, to intensify their efforts in locating the missing students.

The focus is on ensuring their safe recovery and reuniting them with their families during this distressing time.
