Tragic Fire Incident Claims Three Lives on Lagos’ Lekki Expressway

LASEMA’s Statement on the Incident

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) revealed details about the incident in a statement posted on its Facebook page on the same day.

According to LASEMA, its Response Team was deployed to the scene at Sandfill Bus-stop, inward Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island.

Reckless Driving Causes the Tragedy

Upon arrival at the scene, the Response Team discovered that the bus, with registration number MUS 753 YD, was engulfed in flames.

Further investigation revealed that the fire resulted from reckless driving. Unfortunately, the three passengers trapped in the bus were burnt to death.

Efforts to Address the Aftermath

The statement conveyed that the remains of the deceased individuals have been relocated to the nearest morgue for necessary procedures.

Additionally, the bus was recovered off the road and moved to Maroko Police Station.

LASEMA Urges Caution on Lagos Roads

LASEMA’s boss, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, expressed concerns about reckless driving on Lagos roads and urged drivers to exercise caution, emphasizing the dangers of drinking while driving.

The Permanent Secretary at LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, while commiserating with the families of the deceased, called on motorists to drive with care and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey.

A Call for Responsible Driving

In the concluding remarks of the statement, there was a strong plea for responsible driving, highlighting the unfortunate habit of commuter drivers driving recklessly and consuming alcohol while on the road. The statement concluded by advising all drivers to drive with care to avoid the loss of lives and properties associated with this menace.
