Shocking Incident in Oslo as Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s Son Marius Borg Høiby is Detained Following Alleged Assault

On a quiet Sunday night, the Norwegian royal family was thrust into the spotlight for troubling reasons.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, found himself in serious trouble after an incident at an apartment in Frogner, Oslo.

The 27-year-old spent over 30 hours in police custody after a woman in her 20s called the authorities, alleging psychological and physical assault.

Reports from Se og Hør revealed that Marius Borg Høiby, whose father is Morten Borg and stepfather is Crown Prince Haakon, was put in solitary confinement.

He was subjected to a blood test to check for drug influence.

The woman involved was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a concussion before being released early Monday morning.

A Troubled Royal Family

The incident has caused significant disruption within the royal family.

Marius, the eldest child of Mette-Marit, is now staying at the royal Skaugum estate with his mother.

Mette-Marit, who was supposed to attend the men’s 1500-metre final at the Paris Olympics, has postponed her trip.

Crown Prince Haakon attended the event alone.

Marius Borg Høiby has hired Øyvind Bratlien, a lawyer with expertise in high-profile criminal cases, to represent him.

Bratlien stated that the charge concerns assault, which is the least severe form of violence under the law.

He mentioned that neither he nor his client has been informed of the full details of the case, and Marius has not yet given a statement on his advice.

The police’s security service (PST), responsible for the royal family’s security, confirmed their awareness of the incident.

Martin Bernsen, a senior adviser in PST, said they were informed shortly after the incident but declined to comment further, referring inquiries to the Oslo police district.

This incident comes at a challenging time for the Norwegian royal family.

Princess Martha Louise, Crown Prince Haakon’s older sister, is set to marry ‘Shaman’ Durek Verrett on August 31.

The couple’s relationship has been controversial, leading to Martha Louise stepping down as a working member of the royal family in November 2022 after backlash over her partner’s controversial views.

Marius’ Background and Public Life

Marius is the son of Mette-Marit from a brief relationship before she met Crown Prince Haakon.

At the time of her wedding to Haakon in 2001, Mette-Marit was a single parent to four-year-old Marius.

He grew up making public appearances with his mother, stepfather, and half-siblings, Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus.

Stepping Away from the Public Eye

At 20, Marius decided to step away from public life, with the royal court announcing he would not conduct any official activities on behalf of the royal family.

Mette-Marit published an open letter stating that Marius would remain a vital member of the family but would not have a public role.

Personal Relationships

Marius was previously linked to heiress Linn Helena Nilsen, but the couple split in July 2017.

Despite the recent incident, the royal family continues to navigate their personal and public lives amidst ongoing challenges.
