Selena Gomez’s Make-Up Brand Condemns Palestinian Deaths
Selena Gomez’s make-up brand, Rare Beauty, has issued a pro-Palestine message following criticism of the singer’s initial response to the conflict, which was labeled ‘half-hearted.’
Gomez had posted a message last week stating, ‘we need to protect ALL people,’ but she was criticized for not taking a clear stance on the issue.
She even threatened to delete her Instagram account in response to the backlash.
Rare Beauty’s Clarification of Stance
In a recent Instagram post, Rare Beauty shared a maroon square with ‘Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza’ written in white.
The caption was extensive, condemning both the October 7 terror attacks and the deaths of ‘thousands of innocent Palestinian civilians.’
The brand asserted that ‘Palestinian civilians must be protected, period.’
It expressed deep concern for the victims of Israeli airstrikes, highlighting the suffering of innocent Palestinian civilians, including children.
The company also made it clear that it condemns any form of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, emphasizing the importance of denouncing attacks on civilians.
Selena Gomez, the founder and chairwoman of Rare Beauty, recently signed a letter to President Biden, along with other artists and advocates, calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Addressing the Backlash and Critics
Selena Gomez faced criticism for not speaking out about the war earlier, given her role as a UNICEF Ambassador.
Responding to the backlash, she disabled comments on her more recent posts and stated, ‘I’m taking a break and deleting my Instagram. I’m done.
I do not support any of what’s going on.’
In a now-deleted Instagram Stories post, Gomez expressed her heartbreak at the violence and suffering in the world.
She emphasized the need to protect all people, especially children, and end the violence permanently.
Gomez acknowledged that her words might not be enough for everyone, but she couldn’t stand by while innocent people suffered.
She clarified that while she wished she could change the world, a social media post alone wouldn’t achieve that goal.
A Stronger Stance on the Humanitarian Crisis
Rare Beauty’s statement and Selena Gomez’s subsequent responses indicate a stronger stance on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The brand’s condemnation of violence against Palestinian civilians and its call for their protection align with international efforts to address the ongoing conflict.
While Gomez faced initial criticism, her more recent posts and actions reflect a commitment to advocating for peace and the well-being of all people affected by the conflict.
