SASSA Announces Early Payment Dates for July 2023 Social Grants, Addressing Beneficiary Concerns

…By Roland Peterson for TDPel Media. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the payment dates for social grants in July 2023. In an effort to address beneficiary concerns, SASSA aims to distribute funds as early in the month as possible.

New Approach to Grant Payments

Traditionally, SASSA grants were disbursed later in the month, causing dissatisfaction among beneficiaries.

However, in response to these complaints, the agency has decided to initiate payments on the second day of the month or the nearest working day.

Sequential Disbursement of Grants

Pension grants for older persons will be paid out first, followed by disability and children’s grants. Subsequently, all other SASSA grants, including the R350 SRD grant (Social Relief of Distress), will be distributed. It’s important to note that the R350 grant no longer has a fixed payment date.

Collection of Funds and Withdrawal Methods

Beneficiaries can collect their funds after the day they become available.

The “normal grants,” excluding the R350 grant, can be collected from the post office.

Additionally, all grants, including the R350 grant, can be withdrawn from ATMs or selected retail partners such as Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay, Boxer, and Shoprite U-Save.

The SASSA gold card can also be used for purchases, similar to a regular debit card.

Alternatively, beneficiaries have the option to have the funds deposited directly into their personal bank accounts, which SASSA considers the most convenient payment method.

Conclusion:

SASSA has revised its approach to grant payments by initiating earlier disbursements in response to beneficiary feedback.

The agency has provided a sequential schedule for various grant types, ensuring timely distribution of funds.

Beneficiaries have multiple options for collecting and accessing their grants, including post offices, ATMs, and selected retail partners.

Additionally, the convenience of direct bank deposits is highlighted as a preferred method by SASSA.
