SANWO-OLU PRAISES HIS WIFE FOR SUPPORTING THE LAGOS BOY-CHILD INITIATIVE

As the First Lady exhorts parents to instill good values and influences in their sons, Rewards Brilliant Lagos Boys
In order to develop good values in boys and educate parents on how to manage their sons’ behavior, the Lagos Boy Child Initiative (LBCI) was championed by the first lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.

At the 2023 Lagos Boy Child Initiative Parenting Seminar held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Villa Park Hotels & Suites, Plot 76, Link Road, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Sanwo-Olu, presented the commendation. The Lagos State Government is pleased to fully identify with this initiative and the goals that it seeks to achieve in line with the vision and commitment to his administration’s policy of inclusion as a strategy for sustainable development, said the Governor, who was represented by Pharm. Toyin Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development. One of the problems preventing boys from reaching their full potential, according to Sanwo-Olu, is poor parenting and societal perceptions of how to raise boys.

However, he argued for a shift in perspective and the recognition that every responsible and well-raised girl child will also require the complement of a similarly responsible and well-raised boy child.

The First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, spoke at the occasion and urged parents to be cautious in their treatment of their children, regardless of their gender, arguing that raising a boy required hard work and numerous counseling sessions.
“I want to encourage everyone in attendance to encourage not just our kids but also those around us. Let’s encourage others to realize their potential when we see it in them. Let’s help local children realize their aspirations to make the world a better and safer place to live, the governor’s wife said.

She also took advantage of the occasion to give consolation prizes to other winners and present cash and gifts to the top four winners of her office’s earlier inaugural talent hunt competition. She referred to all 13 of the contestants as champions in their own right and urged them to keep honing their creative abilities.

The fiercely contested tournament was divided into two sections: Creative and Visual Arts; and Science and Technology, which includes Robotics and Mechatronics. Both senior and junior categories received prizes.
The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, was commended by the Governor’s wife for her charitable act in awarding Miss Maryam Aramide Abdulrasaq of Lagos State University (LASU) a scholarship through the initiative’s National Scholarship Programme (NASP) Tertiary Education. One of the event’s facilitators and the founder of the International Parent Network, Mrs. Wendy Ologe, gave a presentation on “Effective Parenting: Managing Behavioural Differences and Mentoring Responsible Boys” in which she emphasized the importance of fathers serving as role models and mentors for their male children and being more available to them.

Wendy argued that society’s preference for bringing up guys to be fearless and tough has had a harmful impact on boy children in a number of ways. She urged parents to devote more time to raising their children and to view their households as organizations in which all divisions must cooperate to create good living environments.

The invited panelists comprised Dr. Juliana Lawson and Mrs. Akran Akhere, who are parents, Mr. Ebuka Ede, the founder of the Save the Boys Initiative, Mr. Dein Whyte, of CyberCrimes and Security (EFCC), Mr. Victor Afolabi, of Innovation and Creativity Expert, and Mrs. Rhoda Ayinde, the moderator.
