Emergency Landing in Algarve
A Ryanair flight, FR 1249, en route from Manchester to Tenerife South, was compelled to make an emergency landing in Portugal’s Algarve region due to a technical issue.
The aircraft experienced a malfunction triggering a ‘Code Red’ alert at Faro Airport around 9:20 am. The pilot redirected the plane towards Faro Airport after encountering problems while flying southwest towards the Canary Islands.
Emergency Response and Safe Landing
More than 70 responders, including police, firefighters, and Civil Protection workers, along with around 30 emergency vehicles, were mobilized in response to the ‘Code Red’ alert.
Roads leading to the airport were temporarily blocked as a precaution. Despite the emergency, the plane landed safely at around 10 am local time. The flight, carrying approximately 164 passengers, concluded without any reported injuries.
Passenger Update and Ryanair’s Response
Passengers on board the flight awaited a backup aircraft to continue their journey to Tenerife. Ryanair issued a statement acknowledging the technical issue and the subsequent diversion.
Engineers assessed the original aircraft, and a replacement was scheduled to operate the flight to Tenerife, departing at 10:56 am local time. The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to affected passengers due to the unforeseen technical diversion.
Previous Incidents and Diversions
This emergency landing marks another recent incident involving a Ryanair flight in Faro. A similar event occurred a week prior when a Ryanair plane from London Stansted to Morocco diverted to Faro after a pilot fell ill.
Additionally, past incidents involving other airlines, like easyJet, also resulted in diversions to Faro due to crew-related health concerns.
