In a shocking incident in Moscow, Colonel Andrei Torgashov, a high-ranking Russian military officer, was severely injured when a car bomb exploded.
The 50-year-old, who was reportedly a senior GRU military intelligence officer, was driving his Toyota Land Cruiser Prado with his wife, Maya, when their vehicle was targeted in what is suspected to be an assassination attempt.
The blast occurred near their home on Sinyavinskaya Street in northern Moscow.
The explosion resulted in the amputation of both of Torgashov’s feet, and he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. His wife sustained facial lacerations but is expected to recover from her injuries.
The explosion was so intense that it was caught on video, showing debris and car parts scattered near a nearby children’s playground.
Connection to Broader Conflict
This incident comes in the wake of another tragic event where at least 12 Russian soldiers were killed and 30 others hospitalized after consuming poisoned watermelons in an occupied city.
Russian authorities suspect that the recent attack on Torgashov might be connected to the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
Suspicious Activities and Investigation
A video has surfaced showing a man in a light-colored hoodie placing a bomb under Torgashov’s car.
Witnesses reported that the attacker stayed nearby for about 11 minutes after planting the device, seemingly communicating with his handlers.
The colonel managed to provide himself with first aid before being taken to the hospital.
The police have classified the explosion as a ‘detonation of an object installed in the car’ and are actively investigating the incident.
Major-General Irina Volk confirmed that law enforcement is working to determine all the details surrounding the attack and to identify those responsible.
