Rulani Mokwena Breaks Silence on Departure from Mamelodi Sundowns Amid Controversy Over Club Relations

Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has broken his silence following his departure from the club.

The 37-year-old, who recently ended his tenure with Masandawana, officially announced by the club this week, spoke out about his unexpected exit.

Reports suggested his departure stemmed from strained relations with sporting director Flemming Berg, although Sundowns have refuted these claims.

Mokwena, who had extended his contract just a year ago, expressed his reluctance to leave the club.

In an interview with Robert Marawa on Marawa Sports Worldwide, he admitted feeling pressured into the decision.

“I didn’t want to leave.

I have to make that clear.

But I think my hand was forced,” Mokwena revealed.

Confidentiality and Challenges

Despite his desire to discuss the situation openly, Mokwena cited a confidentiality clause preventing him from revealing certain details.

“There are a lot of things I can’t talk about because I’ve signed a confidentiality clause,” he explained.

This restriction, he emphasized, limited what he could disclose about the circumstances surrounding his departure.

Reflecting on Achievements

During his tenure, Mokwena achieved significant success with Masandawana, guiding them to their seventh consecutive DStv Premiership title last season.

Despite this accomplishment, he acknowledged the unpredictability of football.

“It makes no sense to me.

But, there are a lot of things in life that don’t make sense, but you just have to accept,” Mokwena commented, reflecting on the unexpected turn of events.

Future Uncertainty

With his departure from Sundowns, Mokwena’s future plans remain uncertain.

While reports have linked him to opportunities in North Africa, his next career move remains undisclosed.
