After a season spent largely on the bench at SuperSport United, Zimbabwean defender Ronald Pfumbidzai has found a new club. His move comes after being deemed surplus to requirements at the Betway Premiership side.
Pfumbidzai joined SuperSport United from Chippa United in July 2023, but he struggled to secure a regular spot in the lineup throughout the 2023/24 season.
As a result, the 29-year-old defender is now seeking fresh opportunities to get back into top form.
To reignite his career, Pfumbidzai has signed with Scottland FC, an ambitious team in Zimbabwe’s Northern Region Division One.
Scottland FC is a strong contender for promotion to the Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League (PSL), and Pfumbidzai will be joining the squad in hopes of contributing to their success.
At Scottland FC, Pfumbidzai will be teaming up with several notable players, including former Kaizer Chiefs defender Lincoln Zvasiya and ex-Jomo Cosmos midfielder Denver Mukamba.
The club, owned by Scott Sakupwanya, is making a concerted effort to attract top talent as they push for promotion.
Recent Departures and Arrivals
SuperSport United has seen several players leave recently, including Keegan Allan, Shandre Campbell, and Jesse Donn.
Abdulrazack Hamza, Etiosa Ighodaro, Thalente Mbatha, Phathutshedzo Nange, Selaelo Rasebotja, and Siyanda Xulu have also departed.
The highlight of these exits was the sale of 18-year-old winger Shandre Campbell to Club Brugge in Belgium.
New Signings for SuperSport United
In response to these departures, SuperSport United has made some key additions. Nyiko Mobbie, a versatile defender, and experienced forward Vincent Pule have joined the team.
Goalkeeper Ricardo Goss is back on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, and Pogisho Sanoka, previously with TS Galaxy, has also been signed.
A Deal Falls Through
In a surprising turn, the club decided not to sign Keagan Dolly, who was set to join from Kaizer Chiefs. Despite completing his medicals, the deal was ultimately blocked due to a decision made by coach Gavin Hunt.
Club CEO Stan Matthews has clarified that the choice was made by Hunt, reflecting the team’s strategic direction.
