House of Representatives Confirms NDDC Board and Management Nominees

The House of Representatives has successfully reviewed and confirmed the presidential nominees for the board and management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The nominees underwent a rigorous screening process before receiving approval.

Presidential Request and NDDC Act Compliance

President Bola Tinubu formally requested approval for the chairman and governing board of the NDDC, as per Section 2(2) of the Niger Delta Development Commission Act.

The President’s submission included Mr. Chiedu Ebie as the nominee for the position of NDDC board chairman and 16 additional candidates for various board positions.

Expectations for Visionary Leadership

Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the chairman of the House Committee on NDDC, emphasized the importance of visionary leaders with integrity to fulfill the commission’s mandate and make a positive impact on the lives of people in the Niger Delta region.

Nominees’ Presentations and Confirmation

The nominees, including Mr. Chiedu Ebie and Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the NDDC Chairman and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer designates, presented their career backgrounds and goals for the commission during the screening process.

The Deputy Minority Leader moved for the nominees to “take a bow” due to previous Senate screenings and their relevant experience, and the committee unanimously approved the motion.

Compliance with NDDC Act

The National Assembly is set to promptly transmit its resolution to the Presidency, thus adhering to Section 2(2)(a) of the NDDC Act, which mandates the examination and confirmation of nominees by the Senate in consultation with the House of Representatives.

Confirmed Nominees

The list of confirmed nominees includes individuals from various states and regions, each assigned to critical roles within the NDDC.

They are expected to lead the agency with fairness, responsibility, and in accordance with the constitution.

House Leader Prof. Julius Inhovbere stressed the importance of the nominees’ duty to chart a new course for the NDDC, being just and fair to all communities.
