In a recent update, Pret A Manger revealed it will be discontinuing its popular subscription service that allowed customers to enjoy five barista-made drinks a day for just £30 a month.
The coffee chain broke the news to Club Pret members via email, explaining that it’s time to rethink the subscription model.
For the past four years, the subscription provided unlimited hot or iced drinks from Pret’s baristas, along with a 20% discount on food and drink items. However, starting in September, Pret will be replacing this deal with a new offer.
The updated subscription will feature five half-priced drinks daily for £10 a month, and the food discount will be eliminated
. Clare Cough, Pret’s UK managing director, mentioned that the change is aimed at creating a “simpler offer” and that the revised subscription will still provide good value compared to the previous scheme, which cost £360 annually.
Customer Reactions and Feedback
Current and potential subscribers will enjoy a reduced rate of £5 a month until March 31, 2025, after which the price will double.
Despite this, the news has been met with disappointment from Club Pret members. Many are upset over the end of the generous discount and changes to the subscription terms. One user shared their frustration online, pointing out that the new deal appears to offer less value compared to the previous one.
Another criticized the progression of the subscription price, calling the changes “laughable.”
Potential Impact and Future Outlook
Customers have expressed strong reactions, with some threatening to cancel their subscriptions and never return to Pret stores.
The backlash has been intense, with complaints about the perceived lack of savings and the recent policy changes regarding QR code sharing.
Pret has been cautioned by some loyal customers that it might be making a significant mistake with these adjustments.
