Pret A Manger has decided to end its popular subscription service that allowed customers to enjoy five barista-made drinks a day for just £30 a month. This announcement came via an email to Club Pret subscribers, informing them that it’s time for a change.
For the past four years, the subscription offered a fantastic deal: any hot or iced barista-made drink up to five times daily for a fixed monthly fee of £30.
Subscribers also enjoyed a 20% discount on other food and drink items at Pret. However, come September, this offer will be replaced with a new and simpler deal.
The revamped subscription plan will give members five half-price drinks per day for £10 a month, and the food discount will be discontinued.
Clare Cough, Pret’s UK managing director, explained that the previous discount scheme was never quite right.
She added that while the change is significant, the new subscription still provides excellent value compared to the £360 annual cost of the current plan.
Pricing and Feedback
Starting immediately, the new subscription will be available for just £5 a month for both new and existing subscribers until March 31, 2025. After that, the price will increase.
Cough noted that since most customers aren’t Club Pret members, the goal is to offer better value for everyone.
Customer Reactions
The announcement has left many Club Pret members upset, especially those who were already annoyed by Pret’s crackdown on QR code sharing.
Some customers have expressed their frustration online, with one remarking on the reduced savings compared to before and another sharing a screenshot of their cancellation email.
The sentiment among many is one of disappointment, with some calling it a blow to Londoners everywhere.
