President Bola Tinubu Calls for Sustainable Economic Plans
At the annual conference for lawyers held in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu emphasized the need for Nigeria to adopt economic strategies that do not drain its finances through excessive foreign debt.
Speaking to a gathering of 16,190 lawyers, President Tinubu stated that achieving prosperity requires addressing poverty and making strategic changes.
He urged collaboration with business leaders present at the event.

President Tinubu raised concerns about the sustainability of using 90% of Nigeria’s revenue to service external debts.
He deemed this practice detrimental and unsustainable, emphasizing the necessity for fundamental shifts to elevate the country’s standing on the global stage.
The President delivered these remarks while inaugurating the Annual Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Abuja.
A Call for Difficult yet Essential Reforms
Focusing on the conference theme, “Getting it Right: Charting the Course for Nigeria’s Nation-Building,” President Tinubu underscored the importance of making tough decisions to propel the country towards growth.
He acknowledged that meaningful reforms often bring initial challenges but stressed their vital role in steering Nigeria towards a brighter future.
Commitment to Judicial Reforms and National Progress
Drawing from his experience in implementing judicial reforms during his tenure as Lagos State Governor, Tinubu reaffirmed his dedication to addressing the issue of remuneration for judicial officers and legal professionals.
He advocated for comprehensive justice reform, beginning with competitive salaries and benefits for legal practitioners in Nigeria.

President Tinubu emphasized the necessity of a change in attitude and mindset among Nigerians.
He urged citizens to look forward with determination and not dwell solely on past grievances.

Referring to a keynote address by Tony Elumelu, Chairman of UBA Plc and Heirs Holdings, President Tinubu lamented the ongoing challenges of poverty and inadequate electricity supply despite Nigeria’s gas resources.
He pledged to prioritize electricity generation and distribution to drive economic growth, asserting that uninterrupted power could significantly reduce poverty rates.
Banishing Poverty through Collective Efforts
Concluding his address, President Tinubu expressed his commitment to eradicating poverty in Nigeria.
He regarded reliable electricity supply as crucial for lifting many out of poverty and asserted that the current state of inadequate power is unacceptable.
Tinubu urged unity in working towards a prosperous nation.
Confidence in President Tinubu’s Governance
NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau, expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to deliver effective governance to Nigeria.
Citing Tinubu’s successful track record as the former governor of Lagos State, Maikyau anticipated that Tinubu’s leadership as President of Nigeria would yield remarkable results.

The conference witnessed the presence of notable figures such as the Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Minister of Sports, Senator John Enoh, and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.
