…By Larry John for TDPel Media. President Bola Tinubu appeared before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Tuesday to present copies of his academic records from the Chicago State University.
This move came as part of his opening defence in response to the petition filed by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Supporting Documents Tendered
During the proceedings, Tinubu’s lawyer, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), submitted additional documents to support the defence.
One of these documents was a 2007 letter from the United States Embassy in Nigeria, which cleared Tinubu of any criminal liability in the United States.
Additionally, a letter of request from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to the US Embassy was also presented.
Certified Academic Records and Immigration Documents
The academic records from the Chicago State University consisted of 12 documents in total.
These records were certified on June 28, 2023, by Jamar C. Orr, the Associate General Counsel at the Office of the Legal Affairs of Chicago State University.
Furthermore, six copies of documents related to immigration and visa records were tendered.
These documents provided details of Tinubu’s trips to the United States between 2011 and 2021, supporting his claim and providing further context to his activities.
It is expected that these submitted documents will play a significant role in Tinubu’s defence as the Presidential Election Petition Court continues its proceedings.
