In a shocking turn of events, police are searching for a healthcare worker who allegedly attacked a 95-year-old woman in her own home.
The incident took place on July 21, when Dorothy was under the care of a female assistant from Medflyt at Home Health Care Agency.
Dorothy’s daughter and granddaughters, who had set up cameras around the apartment in Harlem, witnessed the attack in real-time but were unable to intervene.
The footage reveals the caregiver losing her temper and shouting, “You’re p**sing me off,” before hurling two objects at Dorothy.
The Violent Assault
The video then shows the caregiver hitting Dorothy with a saucepan, which Dorothy tried to block with her arm.
The caregiver continued the assault by throwing the pot over Dorothy’s head, then returned with another pan, striking Dorothy repeatedly on the head as she clung to her walker. Dorothy eventually fell to the floor, battered and bruised.
Family’s Devastation
Ramona Mitchell, Dorothy’s daughter, was away from the apartment when she received distressing news from her daughter, Michelle.
Michelle, who had been watching the live feed, called Ramona in tears, saying, “Tiffany just told me that the girl beat her up, Michelle was crying and screaming on the train ‘oh my God, grandma’s been beat up’.”
Michelle described watching the attack as a “nightmare” and one of the worst experiences of her life.
“I felt helpless… it was the worst thing I could have imagined,” she told ABC 7. “It was so unreal to me, that someone could punch somebody like they were beating them down.”
Ongoing Investigation
The police are actively searching for the caregiver but have not yet made an arrest.
Medflyt has stated that they are conducting an internal investigation in collaboration with the New York City Police Department and are cooperating fully with the authorities.
