The Lekki tollgate in Lagos, Nigeria, is heavily guarded by police officers on the third anniversary of the #EndSARS protest.

The protest was a nationwide movement against police brutality and extrajudicial killings.

On October 20, 2020, security operatives reportedly fired live rounds into a crowd of unarmed young people who had converged on the tollgate to protest.

The death toll from the incident remains unclear, three years after.

The heavy presence of police officers at the Lekki tollgate on the third anniversary of the protest is seen by some as a sign of intimidation and a warning against any further demonstrations.

However, others believe that the police presence is necessary to maintain peace and order.
