Police Officer from Devon and Cornwall Faces Trial for Multiple Alleged Sex Offenses Against Women and Children in Exeter

Emily Jane Davies reports that a police officer, who appeared on Channel 4’s *Call the Cops*, is set to stand trial for serious allegations involving women and children.

Matthew Tregale, from Devon and Cornwall Police, has pleaded not guilty to charges of sexually touching a 15-year-old girl.

Tregale is facing a total of 14 charges spanning from 2005 to 2021.

These include four counts of sexual assault by penetration, two counts of false imprisonment, and additional charges of attempted rape and sexual assault. He is also accused of coercive and controlling behavior towards two other women and harassment that caused fear of violence.

Despite these serious accusations, the 35-year-old, from Exeter, Devon, strongly denies all charges.

In addition to his police work, Tregale was involved with Devon Super Team, a volunteer superhero cosplay group raising funds for children with disabilities in Devon.

Following the news of the charges, the group issued a statement expressing their shock and outlining their decision to suspend Tregale from all charity activities until the trial concludes.

The charity emphasized their commitment to protecting their organization and the well-being of their members.

The trial, initially set for February 2023, has been rescheduled and is now set to begin on September 25 at Bristol Crown Court. The trial is expected to last around four weeks.

Last year, Judge Michael Cullum indicated that a single trial would address all charges, with the pre-trial review scheduled for December 8. Tregale has been informed of his bail conditions and will need to attend court on these dates.
