Police Intercept and Kill Robbers in Benue State Bank Robbery and Police Station Attack

The Benue State police command has given an update on the recent bank robbery and attacks on a police station in Otukpo, Benue State. According to the command, police operatives intercepted and killed two of the armed robbers.

Multiple Banks Raided

Before attacking the police station, the robbers had raided several banks, including First Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Zenith Bank, Access Bank, and Stanbic Bank. They made off with unverified amounts of money.

Police Response

The spokesperson of the command, Catherine Anene, revealed that security operatives intercepted the robbers along the Otukpo-Taraku road and engaged them. In the process, two of the robbers were killed.

Violent Bank Raids

The statement from the police read, “On 20/10/2023 at about 1615hrs, armed robbers invaded Access, First, Zenith, UBA, and Stanbic Bank Otukpo simultaneously.” The Otukpo Divisional Police Officer, CSP. John Adikwu, and other police teams in the area confronted the robbers in a gun battle but couldn’t prevent the attacks on the banks.

Collaborative Efforts

Additional police teams, in collaboration with other security agents, were swiftly deployed to Otukpo to stabilize the area and prevent the robbers from escaping. The robbers were intercepted along Otukpo-Taraku road and engaged in a gunfight, resulting in the deaths of two of them.

Casualties and Ongoing Investigation

Tragically, the DPO sustained a gunshot injury to his stomach, and three other police officers lost their lives. Several others who were injured during the bank raids have been moved to the hospital for treatment. An ongoing investigation is underway to address this incident.
