Call for Arrest: Former NIPOST CEO Accused of Refusing to Vacate Office

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has been called upon to apprehend Adeyemi Adepoju, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Postmaster General of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).

This request comes amidst allegations that Adepoju has adamantly refused to relinquish his position.

Leadership Change and Reinstatement

President Bola Tinubu had recently relieved Adepoju of his role and designated Tola Odeyemi as the new CEO of NIPOST and the Postmaster General of the country.

However, a statement from NIPOST asserted that Adepoju had been reinstated by the President, citing his “exceptional leadership and performance.”

Turbulence and Protests

In a video that emerged, Adepoju was seen arriving at what appeared to be a NIPOST premises, where he was greeted with cheers from a jubilant crowd.

This episode followed protests against the appointment of Adeyemi as the new NIPOST CEO by agency staff who claimed that the appointment ran contrary to their interests.

Calls for Arrest and a Security Threat

Reacting to these developments, the Coalition of Civil Society Networks has urged the police to take action against Adepoju for allegedly refusing to vacate his position.

The Civil Society Organisation (CSO) Coordinator, Zakari Hashim, expressed concerns that this leadership situation has caused unnecessary chaos and instability within NIPOST.

The CSO’s Appeal for Resignation and Stability

The organization called on the ousted NIPOST CEO to step down and cease impersonating that he has been reinstated by the President. They argue that his actions pose a significant threat to the institution’s security and stability.

The CSO reaffirmed its support for the newly appointed CEO, Mrs. Tola Odeyemi, and her capability to lead NIPOST.

Urgent Police Action and Rule of Law

In light of the ongoing situation, the Coalition has urgently called upon the Nigerian Police Force to investigate and take appropriate action against Mr. Adeyemi Adepoju Sunday.

They stress the importance of upholding the rule of law and peaceful transitions of power in government agencies, expressing their desire for a swift and lawful resolution to the situation to preserve the stability and credibility of NIPOST.
