Akeredolu Meets Southwest Governors to Discuss National and Regional Issues
Chairman of the Southwest Governors’ Forum and Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has met with his colleagues from the region to discuss national and other issues affecting the region and the people.
The meeting, held in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, on Tuesday, was attended by Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti.
Akeredolu Appreciates Governors’ Solidarity and Calls for Continuous Collaboration
Akeredolu, who shared photos of the visit on his X handle, said he appreciated the Governors’ solidarity and harped on continuous collaboration among the Southwest States.
“It was a delight to receive my brother Governors from the Southwest today as we discussed National and other issues of interest to the region and the people,” he said.
Lawyers Urge Executive Council to Declare Akeredolu Unfit to Remain Governor
Meanwhile, a group of legal practitioners and concerned citizens has urged the Ondo State Executive Council to declare Governor Rotimi Akeredolu unfit to remain the state governor, due to his poor health status.
The lawyers, in a statement, made the request in accordance with section 189 of the Nigerian Constitution 1999 (as amended), adding that the long absence of the governor had affected the socio-economic progress of the state.
Conclusion
Governor Akeredolu’s meeting with his Southwest colleagues is a significant development, as it suggests that the governors are united in their commitment to addressing the challenges facing the region.
However, the demand by lawyers for Akeredolu to be declared unfit to remain governor is likely to cast a shadow over the meeting and its outcomes. It remains to be seen how the Ondo State Executive Council will respond to this demand.
