Oyo State Workers Called to Stay Home: NLC and TUC Directive

Oyo State Workers Urged to Stay Home in Joint Union Directive

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Oyo State have issued a joint directive urging workers in the state not to report for work on Monday.

The directive was conveyed through a press statement signed by Kayode Martins, the NLC Chairman in the state, and Olabiyi Agoro, the TUC Chairman, on Friday.

Union’s Call for Workers to Gather

The unions have advised all state workers to assemble at the NLC secretariat for a congress.

In light of their grievances and the government’s inability to provide a lasting solution, the unions have instructed workers to remove their personal belongings from their offices on Friday and reconvene at the NLC secretariat, located at Agodi Gate in Ibadan on Monday.

The directive extends to pensioners in the state as well.

Strong Condemnation of Recent Attack

The press statement also strongly condemned the recent assault on the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero, in Imo State.

The unions expressed their commitment to defending the welfare and rights of workers not only in Oyo State but across the entire country.

Union’s Resolute Stance

In their statement, the Oyo State NLC and TUC characterized the attack on the NLC President as an affront to the fundamental rights and liberties of the Nigerian labor force.

They also considered it a manifestation of the tyrannical tendencies exhibited by some state governments towards the labor movement.

The unions made it unequivocally clear that they will not take such attacks lightly and remain steadfast in their dedication to safeguarding the rights and welfare of workers in Oyo State and the entire nation.

The joint directive by the NLC and TUC in Oyo State, urging workers to stay home on Monday, is a significant development that underscores the dissatisfaction among the workforce and their desire for a resolution to their grievances.

The unions’ condemnation of the recent attack on the NLC President in Imo State reflects their commitment to defending the rights of workers and their readiness to take a stand against any perceived injustices.

This directive will likely have consequences for the state and should prompt dialogue between the government and labor unions to address the workers’ concerns.
