On July 29, 2024, an out-of-control paraglider in Russia’s Bashkortostan Republic caused a serious accident when he crash-landed during his first flight using a DIY kit. The incident took place on Mount Toratau, where the paraglider lost control and plummeted to the ground.
Video footage of the event captures the paraglider speeding through a lush green field, clinging to his bright yellow-winged parachute. Moments later, he crashes down, colliding directly with an unsuspecting hiker.
The impact threw the hiker backward, and the scene turned chaotic.
A second video shows emergency responders quickly coming to the hiker’s aid. A team of five worked to transport her on a stretcher down the mountain to an awaiting ambulance.
Local media reported that hospital medics in Sterlitamak treated her for a fractured collarbone, two broken ribs, and a concussion.
The Russian Federation Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed the accident, stating that the paraglider landed directly on top of the woman, who was injured and unable to move.
Emergency personnel and volunteers transported her to safety. The paraglider sustained only minor bruises, and it’s currently unknown if he faces charges for negligence.
This accident follows a tragic paragliding incident earlier this year.
In March, Daniela Barrios attempted to overcome her fear of flying with a paragliding flight that ended in tragedy.
She had shared her excitement on social media before the flight, expressing her determination to conquer her phobia.
The Fatal Fall
Barrios and her pilot took off from El Castillo mountain in Colombia’s Calarcá municipality. During the flight over the Pradera Alta trail, she fell from her seat. Despite the pilot’s attempts to regain control, he could only land safely after the fall.
Rescue and Outcome
A witness who saw Barrios fall immediately called for help. A search-and-rescue operation was launched, and firefighters located her body late at night. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene, having shown no vital signs upon discovery.
