Federal Civil Servant Dies in Tragic Accident En Route to IPPIS Verification

Tragic Accident on the Road to IPPIS Verification

A federal civil servant met with a tragic end on Tuesday while traveling from Maiduguri, Borno State, to Abuja for the verification process of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

This unfortunate incident occurred in Gombe State and involved a group of civil servants, numbering more than 20, who were en route to their destination.

Preliminary Details of the Accident

While comprehensive details regarding the accident remain limited, one of the individuals involved in the incident confirmed the tragic loss of a colleague.

According to the victim’s account, their group was headed from Maiduguri to Abuja to participate in the mandatory IPPIS registration exercise when the accident took place in Gombe.

This unfortunate occurrence has cast a somber shadow over their journey, with one colleague losing their life.

IPPIS Registration Mandate and Salary Disruptions

It’s important to note that the President’s administration, led by Bola Tinubu, had issued a directive for approximately 17,000 federal civil servants to provide their details for inclusion in the IPPIS database.

The implementation of this mandate commenced in May, and since then, some workers have experienced interruptions in their salary payments due to their details not being captured by the IPPIS.

Workers Converge for Registration

The registration exercise, aimed at consolidating personnel information, took place at a central location in Abuja, prompting affected civil servants from different regions of the country to converge at the venue.

They were required to travel long distances to ensure compliance with the directive.

Criticism of the Government’s Approach

While striving to meet the IPPIS registration requirements, some of the affected civil servants have voiced their criticism of the federal government’s approach, deeming it as insensitive.

The tragic incident on their journey to the registration site has further heightened concerns about the process and the challenges it poses to workers.
