…By Larry John for TDPel Media. The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate for the 2023 senatorial election in Nasarawa State, Dr. Wakili Kabir-Muhammad, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt by unidentified gunmen.
The attackers targeted Kabir-Muhammad’s home in the Government Reserved Area of Keffi, a local government area in Nasarawa State.
Election Result Dispute and Political Implications
Prior to the attack, Kabir-Muhammad had contested the election results, which declared Ahmed Wadada of the Social Democratic Party as the winner in the Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone.
He had submitted his objections to the Election Petition Tribunal.
During a press briefing in Lafia, Kabir-Muhammad hinted at political implications behind the incident and expressed his belief that it was politically motivated.
He reported the matter to the Police Area Command in Keffi LGA.
Threats and Family’s Terrifying Experience
Describing the attack, Kabir-Muhammad revealed that he narrowly escaped death as the gunmen stormed his residence.
His family members, who were present at the time, were threatened with harm if they did not disclose his whereabouts.
The intruders were armed with three AK rifles and a pistol, and their primary objective was to locate Kabir-Muhammad.
Suspects and Concerns over Political Jingoism
Kabir-Muhammad suggested that there might be potential suspects involved in the attack, hinting at individuals from his business and political circles.
Expressing his concern over the “troubles emanating from political jingoism,” he emphasized his intention to thoroughly investigate the incident with the assistance of the appropriate authorities.

The senatorial candidate expressed his commitment to pursuing justice and resolving the matter through proper legal channels.
