…By Lola Smith for TDPel Media. A man, Karan Pullock, aged 37, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after sneaking into his neighbour’s home through an adjoining attic and attempting to rape her.
The incident took place on June 30 of the previous year in the same residential complex where both the victim and Pullock resided.
Terrifying Attack:
Pullock entered the woman’s home through the attic, and when she returned later, she noticed that the blinds were down and her dog seemed unusually quiet.
Suddenly, Pullock emerged from a darkened room, armed with a knife, and forcibly grabbed the woman.
Despite her attempts to fight him off, he overpowered her and held the knife to her throat, threatening to kill her as she screamed in terror.
Attempted Robbery and Sexual Assault:
After overpowering the victim, Pullock took her into her own bedroom, where he tied her to a chair and demanded money.
He proceeded to cut her clothes off, sexually assaulted her, and attempted to rape her.
Subsequently, Pullock called the Metropolitan Police and confessed to the heinous act.
The police swiftly responded, arresting him at the scene.
Legal Consequences:
Pullock, a resident of Hackney, East London, has now been sentenced to 12 years in prison and will be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
On January 18, 2023, he pleaded guilty to charges of attempted robbery, attempted rape, sexual assault, and threats to kill.
Impact on the Victim:
The victim shared the profound impact the attack has had on her life, expressing struggles with daily activities and a loss of confidence.
She described living in constant fear and feeling hopeless in a city like London, where fear pervades her existence.
The incident has left her terrified of the dark and has severely affected her ability to socialize and work.
Law Enforcement’s Response:
Detective Sergeant Matthew Cooksey commended the victim for her bravery throughout the investigation and expressed relief that Pullock’s guilty plea spared her from reliving the traumatic experience in court.
He emphasized the commitment of law enforcement to prevent violence against women and vowed to continue removing dangerous offenders from London’s streets.
Sexual Offences Investigation Trained (SOIT) Officer PC Rita Stepanoviene echoed these sentiments, expressing hope that the sentencing would provide the victim with some solace and allow her to begin the process of healing from this dreadful attack.
