…By Dorcas Funmi for TDPel Media. The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has strongly condemned former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo for advising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against releasing Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Dokubo’s remarks, made during a conversation with State House correspondents, equated the release of Kanu with endorsing criminal behavior.
He argued that Kanu should be held accountable for his actions, emphasizing the need for him to face the law.
However, the NYCN’s Vice President (South-East), Smart Uwakwe, issued a statement on Saturday urging Tinubu to disregard Dokubo’s opinions and release Kanu to Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, with specific terms and conditions aimed at ensuring the nation’s security, peace, unity, and progress.
Labelling Dokubo as a militant responsible for acts of violence, such as killings, maiming, and the destruction of government facilities, Uwakwe emphasized that it is Dokubo himself who should be incarcerated.
He called upon President Tinubu and the Nigerian people to remain vigilant against the “Cabal of evil forces” that derive pleasure from destabilizing the unity of Nigeria.
Uwakwe reassured Tinubu that the Ndigbo community would continue contributing to peace, security, unity, and progress in Nigeria.
The statement explicitly called for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu to Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, accompanied by specific terms and conditions that would foster security, peace, unity, understanding, and progress in Nigeria.
Uwakwe expressed the commitment of the Ndigbo people to take all necessary measures to ensure that they continue to contribute to peace, security, understanding, unity, and progress in Nigeria.
He issued a warning against the “Cabal of Evil forces” that seek to disrupt the unity of Nigeria.
Uwakwe acknowledged the challenges faced by the NDI Igbo community in the past but expressed confidence in the focused and driven leadership of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, as well as the collaboration of the Youth Leaders of Ala Igbo.
He declared their determination not to stand idly by while certain individuals or groups instigate activities that could hinder the development and economic growth of Ala Igbo and the unity of Nigeria.
