Missouri Woman, Michelle Peters Charged with Attempted Murder for Poisoning Husband Over Alleged Lack of Appreciation

Michelle Peters, a 47-year-old esthetician and mother from Missouri, faces serious charges after allegedly attempting to kill her husband by poisoning his Mountain Dew with Roundup, a toxic weed killer.

Arrest and Charges

Peters was arrested on first-degree assault and armed criminal action charges and is being held without bond at the Laclede County Detention Center.

The accusations stem from incidents where she reportedly spiked her husband’s soda with Roundup between May and June.

Incident Details

According to authorities, video footage provided by the victim showed Peters tampering with his drinks, which led to suspicion after he noticed an unusual taste in his soda around May 1.

Despite experiencing symptoms like sore throat, coughing, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, he initially attributed them to other causes.

Discovery and Motive

As his symptoms persisted, the victim suspected foul play, especially as he was the only one in the household drinking Mountain Dew.

Investigating further, he discovered video evidence of Peters adding substances to his drinks stored in the garage fridge.

Confession and Justification

During police interviews, Peters admitted to mixing Roundup with the soda, intending to use the concoction as a weed killer.

She also confessed to adding insecticide, mistaking his soda for a bottle of Roundup. Peters justified her actions as a means of expressing frustration with her husband, whom she accused of selfishness and failing to appreciate her efforts.

Legal Proceedings and Health Risks

Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, poses severe health risks if ingested, including gastrointestinal issues and potentially lethal consequences.

Peters awaits a bond review hearing scheduled for July 2, while her husband survived the poisoning, although his current health status remains undisclosed.
