In the world of football coaching, inspiration can come from unexpected places.
For Maxwell Konadu, the newly appointed head coach of Black Leopards, his source of motivation lies in the achievements of his role model, Pitso Mosimane.
Recently stepping into his role at Black Leopards in Limpopo, Maxwell Konadu is gearing up for the upcoming 2024/25 season.
With a career that includes coaching giants like Asante Kotoko and aiding Ghana’s national team, Konadu brings a wealth of experience and ambition to his new position.
Konadu’s admiration for Pitso Mosimane, renowned for his coaching successes across Africa and beyond, runs deep.
From Al Ahly in Egypt to Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa, Mosimane’s trophy-laden career has left an indelible mark on the continent’s football landscape.
Learning from the Best
“I’ve always respected Pitso [Mosimane],” Konadu shared in an interview with FARPost.
“He’s been a role model for me for quite some time.
I’ve kept track of his career, from his stints in Egypt to Saudi Arabia and beyond.”
When asked if he sought advice from Mosimane before accepting the role at Black Leopards, Konadu remained discreet, saying, “That’s a private matter.
But I hold him in high regard and have immense respect and admiration for him.”
Recognition for African Coaches
Konadu also expressed satisfaction in seeing more African coaches gaining recognition, highlighting recent appointments like Fadlu Davids at Simba SC and Rulani Mokwena at Wydad Casablanca.
He emphasized the growing influence of African coaches globally and the importance of their contributions to the sport.
“In football, we’re seeing that it’s a small world,” Konadu noted.
“African coaches are making their mark, understanding the game better, and solving problems effectively.
It’s time for us to be respected for our knowledge and capabilities.”
