Manqoba Mngqithi to Become Mamelodi Sundowns Head Coach with Four-Year Contract as Rulani Mokwena Moves to Wydad Casablanca

It’s official—Manqoba Mngqithi is about to embark on a new journey as the head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns.

After successful negotiations, he’s set to sign a four-year contract with the club.

The 57-year-old Mngqithi will be stepping into his new role following Rulani Mokwena’s departure.

Mokwena has moved on to lead Wydad Casablanca.

Mngqithi, who has been with Sundowns since 2014, previously served as the Senior Coach under Mokwena’s guidance.

Now, Steve Komphela, who recently returned from Golden Arrows, has taken on that role.

The Deal Is Almost Done

According to recent updates, Mngqithi’s agent, Mike Makaab, has confirmed that the agreement is almost finalized.

While Mngqithi hasn’t officially signed the contract yet, Makaab mentioned that only the paperwork remains, which should be completed in the coming week.

New Additions to the Coaching Team

In addition to Mngqithi’s appointment, Sundowns have also expanded their technical team. Romain Folz, a French-Moroccan coach, is joining as an assistant coach.

Folz has experience with Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu FC, and he was most recently a performance manager at FIFA.

Wendell Robinson will continue in his dual role as goalkeeper coach and assistant coach, with Kennedy also providing additional support in goalkeeping.

Pre-Season and New Signings

The team is currently in Austria for their pre-season camp, gearing up for the new season.

To strengthen their squad, Sundowns have already welcomed three new players: Kobamelo Kodisang, Arthur de Oliveira Sales, and Kegan Johannes.

They are also reportedly closing in on Sekhukhune United’s left-back, Asekho Tiwani, who could be their fourth new addition.
