Mamelodi Sundowns Reinstates Erwin Saavedra from Club Bolivar After Midfielder’s Successful Loan Spell Ends in Bolivia

Mamelodi Sundowns have made a significant move by recalling Erwin Saavedra from his loan stint with Club Bolivar.

After a six-month spell with the Bolivian team, the 28-year-old midfielder is heading back to South Africa to rejoin his parent club.

Saavedra originally joined Sundowns midway through the 2021/22 season. Despite his potential, he struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting eleven, playing only eight matches and starting just twice.

A long-term injury further complicated his time with the club, keeping him off the field for a considerable period.

In an effort to regain his form, Sundowns loaned him back to Club Bolivar, with the loan scheduled to end in December 2024.

Club Bolivar’s Farewell Message

Club Bolívar recently confirmed that Saavedra’s loan has concluded. In their statement, translated from Spanish, they mentioned, “Club Bolívar reports that Erwin Saavedra’s 6-month loan has come to an end.

Mamelodi Sundowns has requested his return for the preseason.” They also extended their best wishes to Saavedra, expressing gratitude for his contributions and wishing him continued success.

Sundowns’ New Arrivals and Departures

Saavedra’s return is part of a broader strategy by Sundowns to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.

He is the fifth new face at the club, joining Arthur de Oliveira Sales, Kegan Johannes, Kobamelo Kodisang, and Asekho Tiwani.

The club has also seen several departures, including Nyiko Mobbie, Thabiso Kutumela, Promise Mkhuma, Junior Mendieta, Sifiso Ngobeni, Bongani Zungu, Brian Onyango, and Gaston Sirino.

Additionally, Thabang Sibanyoni and Etiosa Ighodaro have been loaned out to Richards Bay FC, while Luvuyo Phewa is set to join AmaZulu on loan after his stint with Cape Town Spurs last season.
