It looks like Mamelodi Sundowns are gearing up to send midfielder Sammy Seabi out on loan once again for the upcoming 2024/25 season.
Despite being part of the squad, Seabi found it challenging to secure a spot in the star-studded team last season, making only four appearances across all competitions.
Each of these appearances came as a second-half substitute.
Seabi’s path to a regular spot was blocked by some tough competition in the holding midfield role.
He had to contend with a roster filled with talent, including Teboho Mokoena, Bathusi Aubaas, Rivaldo Coetzee, Sphelele Mkhulise, Sipho Mbule, Marcelo Allende, and Bongani Zungu, who has since left the club.
Previous Loan Spells
Before his time at Sundowns, Seabi had a loan spell with Sekhukhune United during the 2022/23 season.
During that stint, he made 24 appearances, scored one goal, and provided one assist.
Seabi initially joined Sundowns in 2019 from Polokwane City under coach Pitso Mosimane and has since been loaned out to Chippa United, Sekhukhune United, and the now-defunct Moroka Swallows.
Agent’s Insight on Seabi’s Future
Given his limited impact last season, Seabi’s agent, Mike Makaab, has hinted that another loan move is likely.
“We’re still exploring options for Sammy Seabi’s future.
Sundowns did exercise the one-year extension on his contract, but it seems he’ll probably go out on loan again,” Makaab shared with FARPost.
Changes at Sundowns
Meanwhile, Sundowns are undergoing their own changes.
They’ve parted ways with several players, including Bongani Zungu, Brian Onyango, Thabiso Kutumela, Gaston Sirino, Promise Mkhuma, and Junior Mendieta.
To strengthen their squad for the new season, they’ve also brought in new faces such as Kobamelo Kodisang, Arthur de Oliveira Sales, and Kegan Johannes.
What’s Next for Seabi?
With these developments, it’s unclear where Seabi will end up next, but it’s evident that another loan spell is on the horizon.
Stay tuned to find out what the future holds for him.
