Tax Dispute: Loose Women Star Kaye Adams Faces Court Over £124,000

The Tax Dispute

Kaye Adams, a prominent figure on Loose Women, finds herself in a legal battle due to a tax dispute amounting to over £124,000.

Unpaid Income Tax and National Insurance

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) asserts that the 60-year-old BBC Radio Scotland presenter owes more than £81,000 in unpaid income tax.

Additionally, it is claimed that Adams has neglected to pay over £43,000 in National Insurance contributions due to her classification as a “disguised employee.”

Freelance Rules and Tax Obligations

According to HMRC, while Kaye Adams hosted her show on BBC Radio Scotland between 2013 and 2019, she should have adhered to specific rules that prevent freelancers from avoiding tax payments.

These rules aim to ensure that individuals working on freelance contracts contribute a similar amount in taxes as those with permanent contracts at the organization.

Self-Employment Assertion

Adams, a former Strictly star, insists that during this period, she was self-employed.

She had chosen to engage in various projects, including her role on the ITV panel show Loose Women.

By classifying herself as self-employed, she believes that she was not subject to the tax regulations in question.

The Legal Battle and Appeal

This case previously went to the Upper Tribunal in 2021, where the presiding judge ruled in favor of Adams.

However, HMRC has since appealed the decision, leading to the current legal proceedings.

BBC Radio’s Response

Court proceedings are currently underway, and Jeff Zycinski, the Head of Radio at BBC Scotland during the relevant time, has responded.

He expressed that he was not aware of the specific policy in question as he was not involved in contractual discussions.

He further noted that the rules at the BBC were implemented in a somewhat disorganized manner.

Kaye Adams on Loose Women

Kaye Adams continues to co-host Loose Women and recently appeared on the show. During this episode, she made an unusual food confession, which left her fellow panellists and the studio audience shocked and surprised.

A Bizarre Food Revelation

While discussing their favorite odd food combinations, Kaye revealed that, as a vegetarian, she enjoyed dipping a KitKat into a bowl of oxtail soup.

This revelation elicited a strong reaction of disbelief from her fellow panellists and the audience.

Reaction from Fellow Panellists

Nadia Sawalha, one of the show’s panellists, was notably horrified by Kaye’s admission and humorously lamented their differences in food preferences.
