The following load-shedding schedules are available for those who reside in South Africa’s major metropolitan areas:Here are six precautions you may take when the power goes out:

Use surge protectors; power surges are a leading cause of equipment failure in the event of a blackout. When disaster strikes, installing a surge protector might help mitigate some of the fallout. Install a surge protector either at the electrical panel or at the device’s power outlet.
Make sure the backup battery for your security system is completely charged and ready to go in case of a power outage.
Light source backup:In case you drive home late at night during a blackout, be prepared with a flashlight. In the event of an unexpected blackout, most smartphones feature a built-in torch or access to a torch app.
Information in case of an emergency:Keep a paper copy of your emergency contacts close at hand in addition to saving their information on your phone. Contact information for the local fire department, police, and/or hospital should also be included. In addition to insurance details, please give the contact details of any close friends or relatives.

Make sure your electronic gadgets, including cell phones, laptops, and tablets, are well charged in advance of any planned outages. As soon as the power comes back on, plug them back in and give them another charge. It’s also wise to keep a portable phone charger (such as a power bank) on hand in case of an unexpected power outage. Having this on hand is helpful in the event of a prolonged blackout.

Get a tiny LP gas bottle and a bulb so you can have gas for cooking and lighting. It may be used for both illuminating a big area and heating food and water. Keep some hot water in a thermal flask so you always have access to steaming beverages. If you know when there will be a blackout, you may also want to plan ahead and cook some meals.
