A Lawmaker representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency in Ebonyi State, Chinedu Ogah has awarded Scholarship up to University level to the trafficked Ebonyi children he rescued from the hands of Traffickers in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria.
The Lawmaker also promise to pay for some of them who are ready to go in skill acquisition and to equip them to start up their lives.
Chinedu Ogah revealed this plans to Journalists while handing over the 17 of them who were already brought back to Ebonyi to the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Chinwe Okah at Ochoudo Centenary City Abakaliki the State Capital.
Oga promised that they would be rehabilitated so that they can become useful to the State and Nigeria.
“I got information about the trafficked Ebonyi children in Ogun State, I immediately Mobilised the Ikwo Development Union in Lagos State, thanks be to God that they have listening ear, they abandoned their businesses and moved to Ogun State where they spent like two weeks in search of them, behold, they were found and some of them were already into prostitution, some were selling groundnuts along major roads, while some where kept inside house.
Only God knows what they were passing through there.
“These Children are from Ezza, some are from Ikwo while others are from different parts of the State,” Ogah explained.
The Lawmaker expressed Joy over the effort and role of Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and the Security Agencies who were able to release those children back to Ebonyi State.
He said, “As it stands now, Chinedu Ogah Foundation is ready to train any of them who are ready to go to school up to University level but for those who want to venture into skill acquisition, Our Foundation will also train and equip such person”.
He said it must be in partnership with State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development so that it can be properly supervised.
“We are putting all these efforts because they are great potentials and as well future leaders of the State, Nigeria and the world at large,” he added.
On her part, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Mrs Chinwe Okah expressed Joy over the uncommon demonstration exhibited by the Lawmaker.
Okah said it can only take a good hearted person to do this great work which Comrade Ogah has done.
“The Ministry must supervise and monitor these children until they are fully rehabilitated and reunite with their families,” Okah said.
She promised that the Traffickers must face their punishment in accordance with the Law.
