Understanding Government Operations
During a recent visitation tour of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Agbaje stressed the importance of these visits in enabling Fellows to gain a comprehensive understanding of the inner workings of government. This understanding, she noted, is vital for effective leadership.
Insight into Emergency Response and Disaster Management
The visit to LASEMA held particular significance as it aimed to provide insights into emergency response and disaster management at all levels of government within the State. Agbaje emphasized the necessity of comprehending how emergency situations are handled and managed in order to enhance leadership capabilities.
Exploring LASEMA’s Mandate
Dr. Femi Oke-Osayintolu, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, warmly received the delegation. He took the opportunity to explain the agency’s blueprint for emergency response and disaster management. He highlighted that the agency’s establishment followed the 2002 Idumagbo blast and has since operated based on core principles such as rescue, partnership, risk assessment, critical response, prioritization, and customer-centric dedication.
Global Standards in Emergency Management
During the visit, Dr. Olatunde Akinsanya, Director of Operations at LASEMA, guided the delegation through the agency’s facilities. He emphasized that LASEMA, through the strategic use of technology, is well-positioned to meet global standards in emergency management. This reflects the agency’s commitment to staying at the forefront of emergency response.
Replicating Success at the Grassroots Level
One member of the delegation, Mr. Stephen Onah, lauded LASEMA for its exceptional emergency infrastructure, considering it the best in the country.
