…By Lola Smith for TDPel Media. Nseabasi Ekanem, the Organising Secretary of the Labour Party (LP) in Surulere Local Government Area, Lagos State, has made a startling claim against a factional member of his party, Abayomi Arabambi.
During an interview on TVC, Ekanem alleged that Arabambi revealed to him that he had received funds from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ekanem confidently stated that he possesses evidence to substantiate this claim.
Maintaining Unity and Progress
Despite having evidence of Arabambi’s alleged involvement with the APC, Ekanem chose not to publicly disgrace his fellow LP member.
Instead, he urged his colleagues to set aside their differences and prioritize unity within the party.
Ekanem emphasized the significant progress the Labour Party has made in recent months.
He attributed this progress to the active participation of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, whose involvement was previously minimal.
Concerns over Misaligned Priorities and Leadership
Ekanem also addressed the ongoing issue of misaligned priorities within the party.
He expressed doubts about the legitimacy of Lamidi Apapa’s claim as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
Ekanem argued that decisions regarding the party’s leadership should be made by the National Working Committee (NWC) during a convention, questioning Apapa’s authority.
Leadership Tussle within the Party
The Labour Party has been caught in a leadership tussle between two factions represented by Julius Abure and Lamidi Apapa.
The dispute over who holds the rightful position of National Chairman remains unresolved, adding to the internal challenges faced by the party.
In light of these allegations and internal conflicts, the Labour Party finds itself at a critical juncture, requiring careful navigation and resolution to maintain party unity and focus on its goals.
