…By Lola Smith for TDPel Media. The Labour Party (LP) has categorically denied rumors circulating about the alleged arrest of its National Chairman, Julius Abure, by security operatives.
The LP leadership has further accused the camp led by the factional National Chairman, Lamidi Apapa, of being responsible for a video circulating on the internet that falsely suggests Abure’s arrest by security agents.
Statement Dismissing the Video as Fake
In a statement released on Friday, the LP, through its Acting National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, declared the trending video, which was published by the former Youth Leader of the party, Anselem Eragbe, as fake and urged the public to disregard it.
The party clarified that Abure had attended the ongoing Presidential Appeal Tribunal earlier in the day and had subsequently been engaged in other official commitments.
Explanation of the Video Content
The LP emphasized that the 10-second video shared by Anselem Eragbe showcased police officers engaged in an argument regarding an unspecified matter.
However, neither Abure nor any of the party’s leaders appeared in the video.
The LP further clarified that there was no reason for security agencies to pursue Abure’s arrest, as they would personally invite him or contact him through his security details if necessary.
Confirmation of Abure’s Activities
The LP confirmed that Abure had indeed attended the court session at the ongoing Presidential Appeal Tribunal and was currently occupied with official engagements.
This clarification aims to counter the false narrative surrounding his alleged arrest.
Warning against Misinformation and Fake News
Labelling the Apapa group as purveyors of misinformation and fake news, Ifoh emphasized the party’s request for Nigerians to dismiss yet another attempt by these renegades to tarnish the character of their esteemed chairman, Julius Abure.
The LP remains steadfast in its commitment to truth and transparency, urging the public not to be swayed by unfounded rumors or manipulated videos.
