…By Dorcas Funmi for TDPel Media. The Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has announced that the National Chairman of the LP, Comrade Julius Abure, is expected to appear in court on Tuesday to address allegations of forgery, impersonation, and other charges brought against him.
Abayomi Arabambi, the suspended national publicity secretary of the Labour Party, made this information known.
According to Arabambi, the police had repeatedly invited Abure to respond to various inquiries, but his failure to comply resulted in his arrest on Friday.
After being apprehended, Abure was taken to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) where he was granted bail after 24 hours.
However, he struggled to find individuals willing to meet the bail conditions, which included surrendering their international passports.
Failure to comply with the bail conditions could lead to his arrest.
Arabambi expressed the belief that while Abure might be cleared of the main charges, he and his associates would no longer be eligible to hold any elective positions within the Labour Party.
He stated that this situation demonstrates the party’s commitment to fairness, justice, and zero tolerance for criminal activities or corruption.
Abure, along with former National Secretary Umar Farouk Ibrahim, Oluchi Opara, and Clement Ojukwu, are all implicated in the allegations.
In response to these developments, the National Publicity Secretary (NPS) of the party, Obiora Ifoh, dismissed Arabambi’s statements as propaganda.
Ifoh maintained that Abure was never invited by the FCID and therefore had no need to appear in court.
He assured that Abure has legal representation attending to the matter.
The situation surrounding the Labour Party Chairman’s charges and impending court appearance highlights internal divisions within the party and raises questions about the future leadership and governance of the party.
The legal proceedings will shed further light on the allegations and their implications for the individuals involved.
