On August 4th, a Korean Air flight traveling from Incheon to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia encountered a harrowing situation when it hit severe turbulence. The flight, carrying 281 passengers, faced a sudden and violent jolt that left fourteen people injured.
Chaos in the Cabin
The turbulence struck as the plane was cruising at 34,100 feet, near Tianjin Airport in China.
Passengers and crew alike were caught off guard. According to reports, the aircraft shook violently for about 15 seconds.
The unexpected movement caused passengers to hit the ceiling, and food trays were scattered throughout the cabin.
One passenger described the scene as chaotic: “The plane plunged suddenly, and people were screaming. Meals went everywhere. It was a mess.”
Injuries and Aftermath
Among those injured were 10 passengers and four flight attendants, all of whom reported pain in their backs and necks. The turbulence sent some passengers who weren’t fastened in their seats hurtling into the air, with one person even striking the ceiling before falling into the aisle.
A medical team was ready to assist upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar, providing immediate care to the injured.
Recent Turbulence Incidents
This incident follows another severe turbulence event from May, when a flight from London to Singapore experienced a drastic drop from 37,000 to 31,000 feet in just five minutes.
The extreme turbulence led to one fatality and several injuries. Passengers described the sudden drop as frightening, with many being thrown against the ceiling.
Additionally, just last month, a flight from Madrid to Montevideo faced similar turbulence, resulting in 30 people sustaining injuries to their heads, faces, and spines.
