…By Lola Smith for TDPel Media. Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has taken the step of dissolving his cabinet in preparation for the handover to the incoming administration.
This move follows a directive issued by the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, who has completed two terms as Governor of Kano State.
Cabinet Dissolution and Handover Procedure:
In a statement from the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Governor Ganduje ordered all Public Officers holding political appointments to commence the process of handing over their responsibilities.
The directive specifically applies to Commissioners, Special Advisers, Chief Executives of Parastatals/Government-owned Companies, and other political appointees.
They are required to hand over their duties to the respective permanent secretaries and Directors of Administration and General Services within their organizations.
Additionally, all government properties in their possession should be handed over to the relevant authorities by May 26.
Handover Notes and Record-Keeping:
Governor Ganduje further instructed the appointees to provide copies of their handover notes to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government for proper record-keeping.
Controversy Surrounding Property Sales:
Recently, allegations were made against Governor Ganduje regarding the sale of government properties to his family members and associates.
During a visit to the Kano State Public Procurement Bureau, the Transition Committee led by the incoming Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, claimed that the Due Process Office had been sold to the governor’s son.
The committee expressed concerns about the manner in which the outgoing governor was allegedly compromising the interests of the people of Kano state.
Warning against Premature Statements:
Governor Ganduje had previously cautioned the NNPP (New Nigeria Peoples Party) to refrain from making policy statements until the party was officially sworn in.
He also advised his successor to avoid creating a situation that would imply the coexistence of two governors in the state.
Conclusion:
As Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje concludes his tenure, he has initiated the dissolution of his cabinet and the commencement of the handover process.
This development comes amidst allegations of property sales to close associates, raising concerns about the integrity of governance.
The governor has emphasized the importance of a smooth transition and urged caution regarding premature policy statements and potential conflicts between the outgoing and incoming administrations.
