Judge Simon Myerson Disciplined for Offensive Tweets Towards Transgender Activist, Receives Formal Advice

Following an inquiry by justice chiefs, Judge Simon Myerson KC has been deemed guilty of acting in an offensive manner towards a transgender activist on social media.

The judge faced accusations of using derogatory language and making inappropriate remarks targeting the activist, which led to a formal disciplinary action against him.

Offensive Tweets Towards Transgender Activist

Simon Myerson KC, in a series of tweets last year, directed offensive remarks towards a transgender activist, labeling them as a “stupid, condescending fool” and accusing them of making “idiotic statements.”

The judge’s tweets also included derogatory comments about the activist’s intellect and insinuations about violence, prompting complaints from two trans activists and subsequent disciplinary action.

Disciplinary Action and Formal Advice Issued

Following the investigation conducted by the judicial conduct investigations office, Judge Simon Myerson was disciplined by Lord Chancellor Alex Chalk and Lady Chief Justice Sue Carr.

The probe concluded that Myerson had acted in an offensive manner and failed to uphold the standards of his judicial office.

As a result, he was issued with formal advice, a form of disciplinary sanction for judicial misconduct.

Controversial Remarks and Political Commentary

In his tweets, Judge Simon Myerson criticized the activist for their views and political affiliations, drawing parallels to former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and engaging in politically controversial topics.

His remarks were deemed inappropriate for a judge, who is expected to refrain from engaging in such debates and maintain decorum and dignity.

Guidance for Judicial Conduct Online

Guidance for judges advises against engaging in arguments about the judiciary or legal system online and discourages debating politically controversial topics.

Judges are expected to uphold moral authority, integrity, and decorum in their conduct, both online and offline.

Despite this guidance, Judge Simon Myerson’s actions led to disciplinary measures being taken against him.
