…By Roland Peterson for TDPel Media. The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Acting Chief of Police, Angie Mokasi, expressed her admiration for Officer Thembelihle Harrison Mkosi from the Region F1 Operations Directorate for his act of kindness.
The officer had gone above and beyond on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, by purchasing a pair of school shoes for a learner in the Johannesburg CBD.
Officer Mkosi, aged 34, had encountered the 8-year-old learner the previous day, Monday, May 22, 2023, at the intersection of Von Wielligh and Pritchard Street in the Joburg CBD, where he was stationed to manage morning peak traffic.
It was during this interaction that he noticed the poor condition of the young girl’s school shoes. Showing empathy, he inquired about her shoe size and the school she attended.
On the following day, Officer Mkosi visited the girl’s school, surprising her with a brand new pair of shoes that he had purchased himself.
He recounted the girl’s excitement upon seeing him, not only because she hadn’t spotted him earlier that morning in his usual traffic control duties but also due to the thoughtful gift of new school shoes.
Officer Mkosi, a father of two boys, felt a sense of pride in what he had done for the girl, stating that he acted without hesitation and was driven by an overwhelming conviction to help her.
Acting Chief Mokasi praised Officer Mkosi’s selfless act, highlighting that such gestures are not something that can be taught but are born out of genuine kindness.
She commended his actions, acknowledging the commendable nature of his act.
In conclusion, Officer Thembelihle Harrison Mkosi’s unexpected act of kindness, where he purchased school shoes for a learner in the Johannesburg CBD, has garnered praise from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department.
The officer’s initiative and compassion have been recognized by Acting Chief Mokasi, who applauded his selfless deed.
