Individuals from Nigeria and Venezuela apprehended in India with 880 grams of cocaine

Discovery and Seizure

Police in the western suburb of Saki Naka, Mumbai, India, have apprehended a Nigerian drug peddler and confiscated 880 grams of high-quality cocaine valued at Rs 9 crore from him.

Unraveling the Network

Following the arrest, the Nigerian suspect revealed information leading to the apprehension of his associate and supplier, a 19-year-old Venezuelan national.

The drugs had been smuggled into the country from Ethiopia, concealed within the Venezuelan’s stomach.

Legal Action Taken

Both individuals face charges under the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, as announced by the police in a statement dated Saturday, January 6, 2024.

Police Patrol and Apprehension

Sakinaka police sub-inspectors Rajendra Nagar and Pankaj Pardeshi, along with their teams, were conducting night patrols when they observed a man acting suspiciously.

Upon confrontation, the man attempted to flee but was promptly apprehended.

He was identified as Daniel, a 38-year-old Nigerian national.

Drug Discovery and Market Value

During a search, the police found 88 plastic capsules in Daniel’s possession, containing 880 grams of high-quality cocaine with an estimated market value of Rs 9 crore, according to Datta Nalawade, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 10.

Network Unraveling Continues

Daniel’s interrogation further led the police to a hotel in Sakinaka, where they arrested Joel Ramos, the 19-year-old Venezuelan national.

Investigations revealed that Ramos had recently arrived in India from Addis Ababa via Ethiopian airline and had successfully smuggled the cocaine capsules in his stomach.

Legal Consequences

The suspects face charges under relevant sections of the NDPS Act for smuggling and selling commercial quantities of cocaine.

Additionally, they are charged with violating the Foreigners Act.
